Salesforce serves beginners, specialists, buyers, administrators and partners across a very large regional web estate. Shared navigation and educational content create consistency. They can also make a high-intent product journey carry material written for someone at the start of their research.
The wider lesson
A reusable template should standardise quality without standardising every visitor's next question.
Observed 01
Education and product discovery coexist
Salesforce publishes broad CRM education alongside detailed product and industry journeys. Shared headers, footers and modules help users move across that estate.
Observed 02
Intent can vary sharply by entry page
A visitor arriving on a 'what is CRM?' guide and one arriving on a specific product page have different knowledge, risk and next-step needs, even when they share the same brand shell.
Possible implication
A hypothesis, not a verdict
If deep pages repeat broad orientation before answering the specific question, high-intent visitors may do more work than necessary. At Salesforce's scale, even a modest template effect can be material.
Alternative explanation
A credible reason the signal may be benign
Complex enterprise buying groups often include mixed levels of knowledge. Foundational content can support search visibility, internal sharing and late-arriving stakeholders. Removing it outright could reduce value.
The smallest useful test
Learn before committing to a larger fix
On a high-intent product template, progressively disclose beginner content after the specific use case, proof and next step. Compare qualified action, content depth and assisted conversion by landing intent.
What I would check internally
- Which modules are mandatory across every regional template?
- Can entry intent change module order without changing the content estate?
- Do regional variants serve different buying journeys or merely drift?
- Which template changes affect the largest number of commercial pages?
